weekend update

dear friends,

it is not actually a long weekend, but it feels like too long since i have really had one. perhaps i am just feeling deprived because americans do not celebrate august's civic holiday.

thursday went to this bloc party show at the stone pony in asbury park. interesting happenings:

- because my companion was a sicky and i am getting old we sat at a picnic table that was in the concentric circle behind the circle containing parents. this show really was all ages. very unusual crowd-- jersey teenagers, average show-goers who took the train in from nyc, and a seemingly large number of people with full tatoo sleeves wearing dock shoes (is this a new thing, or an always the case thing?)
- had purse checked at door (normal), had advil bottle opened and inspected, presumably on the assumption i was taking/selling e (it's been a while)
- no one checked my id or gave me a wristband. purchased corona. security then demanded i get a wristband (fine) and demanded chris get a wristband even though he was not drinking (ok, i guess), and over an hour later came back to ask me who sold me the booze (totally remembered, but i am not going to be responsible for someone losing her job)
- ladie's room had bathroom attendendant. toss up: trying to be classy, trying to ensure no one over does the blow?
- i liked mew (the opener). bloc party played all of my favourite songs (like eating glass, this modern love) before the electical storm-- what more could a girl want?

friday- because summer concert companion (not to be confused with best show friend, who had ben lee wish her a happy bday in chicago on friday) was still sickly we decided to skip out on the silver mt. zion show (no big loss to me). we did still go into nyc. because i am a good friend, i helped former fake husband pick out something at lush for new girlfriend who returns from ireland later this week. would not have gone in exclusively to do this, was lured with trip to soundfix records, where (unlike blasted princeton record exchange) things are all in alphabetical order. bid adieu to the boys (chris met a friend visiting from chattavegas in the city) in true scary mom fashion by giving them two contingency stella (in case liquour store was closed) and a jar of vics vapor rub (for sicky). settled into season 1 of grey's anatomy, whole foods pizza, and sleep by 10.

saturday- there was definitive sleeping in, some watching of grey's anatomy and gilmore girls, some obsessive cleaning, some making of stuffed peppers (far far too many, and possibly enjoyable to me simply as a vehicle for eating more feta cheese), went to see "john tucker must die" with friend alex. then it was home for more stuffed peppers and more grey's anatomy.

and now it's sunday, and i am attempting virtue-- working on some data consulting (hopefully the last of it) and looking forward to a little bbq in the trailer park.

and that's the diary of my weekend (enthralling, i am sure).

you make me want to lala

dear friends,

apologies to the canadians, to whom this service is unavailable. i am somewhat of an audiofile and i have many cds that i no longer listen to (thanks to columbia house and bmg in the nineties and amazon in this decade. witness:

Click here to get any of my CDs for $1

i also have a great many wants.

Click here to get any of my CDs for $1

i have thus far gotten rid of 30 cds (joe cocker, everclear, bon jovi) and received 26 in return. all the veruca salt albums, empire records, all the oc soundtracks. i am addicted to checking the lala page. they do notify you if someone wants something you have, but if you click refresh a million times, you ship quicker and faster.

yours in the name of obsessive, compulsive behavior.

a photographic ode to ebizzle

dear friends,

i am addicted to ebay. in the last month i have purchased all of the following:

the colour doesn't translate well in photo/on screen but it is the most darling sunshine yellow. i regularly eat breakfast there now.

this ships tomorrow. exciting.

this is my new baby, also called pinky. if michael jackson can have two kids named prince, i can certainly name two inanimate objects pinky (the other is my ipod)

i have also purchased: purse, sheets, rare explosions in the sky record, lamp... and this says nothing of the things i have lost out on or could not afford.

in order to pay for all of this, i have given up a life of leisure and started data consulting and ra-ing.

must go check in on something i am bidding on.

new career: scalper

dear friends,

if this grad school thing doesn't work out, i may just have a future in scalping. since two shows in a week seems a little much (especially in a week that also includes a silver mt.zion show) i decided to offload the nyc tickets on craigslist. i knew the show was sold out, so i was expecting to see people looking/selling on craigslist. what i found was people trying to sell for crazy amounts of $. so i posted 2 tickets available--best offer. best offer came in at $220 from a guy who sent two emails-- the first saying he could pay $220, the second saying he could immediately paypal me the $ and that he was really trying to impress this girl... so i sold him the tickets that i paid $90 for (including express shipping etc etc). not so bad. it essentially means we are going to the second, smaller show and to nice dinner for free.
